ABOUT THE POET

Shirley Pourbaba is a poet guided by a simple yet enduring belief: that love is the highest expression of human consciousness and that nature is our greatest teacher. Through poetry, art, music, and philosophy, she explores the invisible threads that unite humanity with the natural world, inviting readers to discover beauty, meaning, and the sacred within everyday life.

Born in Iran and raised in New York after the 1979 Revolution, Shirley’s creative journey was deeply shaped by her parents. Her mother instilled in her a lifelong reverence for nature, often reminding her, “One who is absent to nature is deprived of nurture.” These words became a quiet compass in her life. Her father’s work introduced her to the timeless beauty of Persian art and antiquities, inspiring a deep appreciation for symbolism, mythology, and cultural heritage.

About the Book

A Sip Of Love

A Sip of Love is an invitation to pause long enough to notice the quiet beauty that so often escapes us. Within these pages, each poem is offered as a gentle sip not to satisfy the soul all at once, but to awaken it, one reflection at a time.

Inspired by the mysteries of nature, Shirley Pourbaba writes from her own lived experiences, quiet observations, and intuitive awareness. She believes that creativity begins in deep listening, where the heart becomes a receptive vessel through which inspiration is received from the Divine. Her poetry does not seek to explain life’s mysteries, but to honor them, trusting that the soul often recognizes truth long before the mind can give it a name.

Sweet Words from Readers

I didn't expect a poetry collection to feel like a prayer and a love letter at the same time, but that's exactly what this is. "Yet to Come" opens the book with such quiet power — you can feel the anticipation building before anything even happens. Pourbaba writes love like it's sacred, not casual.

Lush, image-heavy, unapologetically romantic. The nature metaphors (rivers, moons, songbirds) recur throughout and build into a kind of private language rather than growing tired. When a line lands — and many do — it really lands.

As someone with Iranian roots myself, I felt the echoes of classical Persian poetry all through this — the wine, the beloved, the longing for union with the Divine. "About the Collection" says it best: every poem really does feel like "a sip." This is Rumi-adjacent without being derivative.

Rich, layered writing that rewards a slow read. The cosmic imagery — eternity, the soul, the Divine — builds a consistent atmosphere across the whole book. "The Alley" was the standout for me, the one poem that plants its feet in an actual place with real people in it.
